The Head of School is Prof. Robin Joubert The School Administration Officer is Ms Khanyi Khuzwayo The Faculty Modules Admin. Officer is Ms Melissa Manuel
Each discipline is headed by an Academic Coordinator(AC) / Deputy Head of School who are directly responsible for the coordination of all discipline specific courses within the School. The newly appointed ACs/Deputy Heads of School from 2008 are:
Dr. L. Joseph (Audiology) Mrs T. Lingah (Occupational Therapy) and Mrs. L. Moodley (Speech-Language Pathology-with effect from 2010)
The School has two functions:
1) It is responsible for administrating various School tasks that relate to the various disciplines and for this there are the following sub-committees or Units:
- Academic Development Unit: which provides students with a variety of academic support services that cater both for the struggling student as well as those who are trying to achieve distinction or simply want to improve their performance. It provides a means through which the student's voice can be heard.
- Marketing, Recruitment and Selection Committee: This group is responsible for arranging career talks and open days, putting together recruitment materials such as videos and pamphlets and coordinating the selection process for all three disciplines every year.
- Support Staff Committee: this committee represents all staff other than the academic staff. They have various Discipline responsibilities and School responsibilities which are shared among them such as assisting with the logistics of School Research Days, Oath Taking ceremony, School Board meetings etc.
- School Research Committee: this committee coordinates research activities in the School such as arranging ethical clearance for undergraduate research, organizing the School Research day, arranging Post Graduate seminars etcetera.
- Staff development : the School is also responsible for ensuring that staff receive the necessary support in developing research and teaching skills and are able to complete post graduate Masters and Phd degrees.
- Post graduate degrees: The School is responsible for developing and administrating post graduate degrees that fall under the School as a whole and not under a specific discipline.
- School Board meetings
2) Our second function is to administrate and coordinate several Faculty Modules: There are ten of these modules and details of each can be found under Modules in the main menu. These Faculty modules are administered through this School.
Our School ethos is rooted in a combination of acknowledging the essentiality of team work, community based intervention and a strong belief in the strengths and abilities rather than the disabilities of those we serve. We believe that while we should train Audiologists, Occupational Therapists and Speech-Language Pathologists who can work anywhere in the world our prime focus is to train those who work with competence and sensitivity within an African context.
